Palm oil - We'll enlighten you

Why is palm oil so popular?

Palm oil is currently on everyone's lips and we mean that literally, as it is contained in almost every second supermarket product!
You will find the raw material palm oil in the list of ingredients of many a chocolate, ice cream, pizza or even in detergents or soaps.

The ingredient palm oil does not yet have to be officially declared because it is often hidden under the pseudonym "vegetable fats", which thus confuses the population.

The oil obtained from the palm fruit has the best properties, as it is high-yield and can be used industrially. Magarine with palm oil is particularly "tender to spread", has a long shelf life and, compared to other alternatives, this raw material is particularly cheap.

A third of the global consumption of vegetable oil now comes from the palm fruit. Around one million tons of palm oil are consumed annually in Germany alone! Global consumption has more than doubled in recent years ...
When growing palm oil, you need significantly less cultivation area to achieve the same production quantities compared to other vegetable oils.

However, the steadily growing demand for finished products is causing the palm oil areas to expand more and more.

What does this increase mean for our nature?

Since oil palms only grow in tropical climates, they are in direct competition with the rainforest areas! Around 85% of the world's palm oil plantations are on Indonesian soil and in Malaysia. Due to this growth, more and more rainforest areas are being cleared, small farmers driven from their homes and the habitats of endangered animal species destroyed!

Industry and governments are aware of this issue. But despite this worldwide criticism, those responsible shy away from changing the recipes!
Why? Quite clearly: the origin is, as is so often the case, on a financial level. Palm oil is the cheapest oil on the world market ... unfortunately at the expense of others!

But together we can achieve a lot! Do not use palm oil in supermarket products and use alternatives. This is the first and most important step for a healthy and biodiverse world in which we like to live!
